Special Services & Programs Administrative Staff Before-Care Kindergarten Preschool Preschool Enrichment Program Special Services & Programs Time For Two Transitional Kindergarten Transitional Kindergarten Enrichment Technology LabOur technology lab is fully stocked with six desktop computers, 12 tablets, a smartboard, and a promethean board.The importance of introducing young children to technology in our fast-moving world is vital. All of our Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten, and Kindergarten students regularly attend learning sessions in our technology lab as a part of their curriculum. In her first year, she was a part-time preschool teacher. In 2019, she excitedly accepted the full-time Technology position. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years before beginning her studies at Youngstown State University. Theresa graduated from YSU with a BS in Education and has an Early Childhood License, K-3. Her grown daughter is an alumna of UPSK. She looks forward to helping her students develop socially, intellectually, spiritually and physically in a safe, loving environment. Theresa is the person who greets the children in our Before-Care Program beginning each day at 7:30 a.m.Speech & Language TherapyAll USPK children have the opportunity to be assessed by our speech and language teacher. Services are provided free of charge to our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students based on our charter credentials, designated by the Ohio Department of Education. All other students can receive services through self-pay.All services are focused on the individual child’s needs and assessment. Through interactive play and educational games, children develop their speech and language skills. Parental involvement is important, as children will be given “homework” to ensure the success of the treatment.Foreign LanguageStudents in our Preschool Enrichment, Transitional Kindergarten Enrichment, and Kindergarten Programs receive a weekly Spanish lesson. Children learn the wonderful basics of a foreign language, including numbers, letters, colors, social greetings, and simple statements.School CounselorOur Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students receive regular, group lessons from our licensed counselor on topics such as bullying, kindness, friendship, and stranger danger. Should your child need help with issues related to trauma, depression, transitions, grieving, or any emotional/social concerns, one-on-one counseling is available right here at the school.Chrysann MitzelSchool CounselorEmail: [email protected]BioChrysann is a licensed professional clinical counselor with over 20 years of experience helping children and families. She has won many awards for her work including the Mahoning County Mental Health Board Children and Family Advocate award, Cardinal Mooney Distinguished Alumni Award, and the Doris Burdman Award. She has been a member of many local boards and currently is on the boards of Help Network of Northeast Ohio and the Federation of Families, of which she is the president. She and her husband have three grown children and one grandchild. They enjoy vacationing at Myrtle Beach.
